Vivid hand‑painted scenes of a princely tiger hunt—one from elephant back, one from horseback—after classic Mughal/Rajput miniatures. Executed in opaque pigments on silk with stylised hills and attendants below, these works capture the drama and pageantry of the royal shikar that filled Indian court painting from the 16th century onward. Purchased in India in 1988–1990 (labels to reverse). Presented in later frames.

Provenance: Handwritten labels on the backs note purchase in Trivandrum (Kerala) in 1988 and in Goa in Feb. 1990 (“1 of 3”). Both areas exported Mughal‑style paintings on silk to travelers in the 1980s–90s. No workshop signature; likely Indian workshop production.
Condition: Colours bright; minor age rippling to silk. Frames show light cosmetic wear.

The compositions imitate North Indian Mughal/Rajput miniature painting, itself rooted in Persianate court art brought to India in the 16th–18th centuries.
Royal “shikar” (hunt) scenes—especially tiger and lion hunts—were a symbol of sovereignty under emperors such as Akbar and Jahangir and remained popular with later Rajput and Pahari schools. These 20th‑century works echo that iconography for the decorative market.
