The casting and “ormolu-style” gilded finish point to late Victorian to early 20th century taste (c. 1890–1930), when historic revival interiors (Neo-Classical/Louis XVI Revival) were fashionable in both Britain and on the Continent.
These types of fittings often began life as candle or gas wall lights, and many were later adapted for electricity during the widespread domestic electrification period (early 1900s onwards)
