A striking little mid‑century bottle vase in classic sommerso technique: a rich cranberry/ruby core appears to “float” within a clear outer casing, edged with a glowing amber/yellow lens at the shoulders. The thick, weighted base and clean modern silhouette make it perfect as a bud vase, shelf accent, or desk piece—small in size but big on colour depth.

The base bears an etched signature/mark (partly legible in our example), adding to its studio-art-glass character.

Condition: Original stopper broken in neck of bottle, otherwise very good vintage condition overall with expected light base wear from age. Please review photos for close detail.

Historical Context

Sommerso (Italian for “submerged”) is a technique where one gather of coloured glass is encased within another, creating strong colour depth and “floating” optical layers. It became especially associated with Murano (Venice) from the 1930s onward, and was hugely popular again in the post‑war mid‑century period (1950s–60s) as bold colour and sculptural form became central to modern interiors. The look was also adopted by Scandinavian and broader European glasshouses during the same era.
