Historical Context
Historical Context
Laura’s Tower is the small octagonal summer‑house built in the 1790s on the summit of Shrewsbury Castle’s motte. The castle and tower were refurbished under Thomas Telford for the owner Sir William Pulteney; the tower was named for his daughter, Laura Pulteney (later Countess of Bath). It’s one of Shrewsbury’s most recognisable viewpoints, so it’s a popular subject for local artists and visitors.
